Join us for an exciting and energetic exploration of what is known to many as the world’s most ancient dance.  Participate in a beautiful and elegant form of creative expression that is also a proven path to physical fitness and feminine well-being. The course will focus on:

  •  The development of fundamental belly dance technique
  •  Exploration of Raqs al-Sharqi (cabaret/classical orientale), Saiidi (Southern Egyptian), beledi (Egyptian folkloric), fusion, Turkish, tribal, Roma, Moroccan and other dance styles
  •  Information on costuming and the historical/cultural context of belly dance throughout the region
All levels, including beginners, are invited and encouraged to attend.

(1) Parking: There is limited parking in rear of studio and parking on side streets. All free.

(2) Pre-registration: It would be cool if you would pre-register by calling the above number or Levantine Cultural Center at 310.657.5511 to reserve your space, to insure that we have enough room.

(3) Suggested Attire: Comfortable, form-fitting clothing. TOP: leotard, midriff top, exercise/dance bra or other comfortable top. BOTTOM: leggings, bicycle shorts or wide skirt. HIP SCARF: Triangular or other hip scarf, preferably with fringe or coin edge. SHOES: Ballet shoes or dance sandals for sensitive feet if desired - no other shoes permitted on dance floor. Daniela’s Biography:

A North African and Middle Eastern dance performer from her teens, Daniela has traveled throughout the world studying contemporary and folkloric styles of belly dance.  At the age of sixteen, Daniela was invited to join the North African Dance Experience, an internationally-renowned North African and Middle Eastern Dance company based in Chicago, Illinois, with which she danced as a company member for over 10 years and continues to dance as a frequent guest soloist.  Daniela has performed at venues throughout the United States and at dance events in Great Britain, Israel, Egypt and Morocco.  

She brings to the dance a unique understanding of African and Middle Eastern rhythms and an energetic, acrobatic and improvisational performance style.  Her performance credits include the WLS-TV Chicago program “Chicagoing,” the Middle Eastern Culture and Dance Association’s Cairo Carnival, Arabia Exotica, the Levantine Cultural Center’s “Middle East Arts Festival for Peace,” BOCA, African Festival of the Arts, Harvard Foundation’s Cultural Rhythms, Harvard ArtsFirst Festival, Rakassah-West and Dar Maghreb.   She has performed for dignitaries from the political and artistic communities including Denzel Washington.  Daniela has taught belly dance at Harvard University, Cambridge University and dance institutions throughout the Chicago area. Daniela continues to perform at cultural events in Southern California.
