Rowan Storm Daf/Frame Drum WorkshopRowan Storm, master of Middle East percussion and vocalist who has performed with a wide range of world music stars, including Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Naser Musa and Souhail Kaspar, will offer a rare Los Angeles workshop on "Essential Frame Drum Method: an Introductory Survey of Middle Eastern Frame Drums."

This workshop is for new and experienced drummers, but note that no previous experience is necessary.

In this three-hour workshop you will learn:

1. Essential elements for playing Frame Drums of the Middle East and Mediterranean, including:
- Frame Drums with nothing added
- Frame Drums with jingles: tambourine
- Frame Drums with rings: dayereh and daf

2. Key patterns which are common to many kinds of Middle Eastern percussion instruments

3. Efficient technique which empowers you to play tirelessly for many hours

4. Rhythms from the Middle East and Balkans

A variety of Frame Drums will be available for use and purchase.

Rowan Storm is recognized internationally for her command of Middle Eastern percussion instruments and music, singing in several languages, and her Essential Frame Drum Method Workshops and Carpet Concerts. Rowan's unique symmetrical approach to the Frame Drum promotes healing through integration of the two brain hemispheres. With extensive travels throughout Iran, Turkey and the Mediterranean, since 1993 Rowan is based in Greece, where she is a leader in the contemporary movement to embrace shared Oriental heritage. Rowan has performed with some of the greatest masters of Middle Eastern music including Souren Baronian, Ross Daly, Necati Çelik, Omar Faruk Tekbilek and Mohammad Reza Lotfi. Her performance and teaching venues include New York City's Lincoln Center, Ross Daly's Labyrinth, Istanbul's Resit Rey Concert Hall, and conservatories, museums and universities throughout the world. Rowan is the only woman on the instrument teaching staff of the Middle East Music and Dance Camp every August in Mendocino, California.
