Shari Rezai and Roxana Rastegar are proud to introduce Dang Show, an Iranian jazz band, performing for the first time in Los Angeles at the Herbert Zipper Concert Hall, featuring songs from their album "Shiraz, 40 Years Old." The band borrows its name from a Rumi poem. The name Dang Show in English translates to "give up your mind."
Reza Shaya Shoja Nouri (piano), Omid Nemati (vocals, percussion), Taha Parsa Shoja-Noori (vocals, saxophone), Darius Azar (upright bass), and Leon Darzibashian (drums) create their eclectic, avant-guard style of music from an inventive fusion of classical Persian poetry and Iranian folklore music with jazz instruments and percussion.
For more information about Dang Show, visit the band's website at: www.DangShowMusic.com.
The band has performed numerous times in Tehran to sold out audiences, including the opening ceremony of the International Fajr Film Festival. They have composed and recorded soundtracks for over ten major Iranian films, including I Ran and Ran, the last film directed by Kamal Tabrizi, and The Gardens of Kandeloos, directed by Iraj Karimi.
DangShow's music is deeply rooted in Iranian philosophies and traditions, and expresses emotions that rise up from this world on traditionally Western instruments. The band's novel approach to music has garnered the attention of and received praise from many well-known figures in Iranian music, theater and cinema such as renowned painter and author Aydin Aghdashloo and award winning film director Abbas Kiarostami. Aghdashloo lends his legendary voice to recite Rumi poems, featured on one of the tracks of Dang Show's album "Shiraz, 40 Years Old," published by Bamahang Productions.
