Frieda Becker

Frieda Becker recently completed a stint as the LCC's Program & Media Associate. She is currently a Park Scholar at the Ithaca College Roy H. Park School of Communication where she studies Television-Radio with a concentration in Documentary Filmmaking. She first became interested in the Middle East after watching the film Paradise Now while attending the Pennsylvania Governor's School for International Studies. Since then, she has been fascinated by the search for ways to create cross-cultural understanding and cooperation. She believes that it is only through putting a face and personal connection to issues in our world that real change can be created. She followed this passion through Arabic classes at Ithaca College and traveling to Nablus, Palestine with the Research Journalism Initiative Leadership Training Institute. She spent her fall 2009 semester studying in Morocco. While there, she completed research on the preservation of Amazigh identity in times of globalization, taught English, and improved her French and Arabic. Frieda has also traveled to Poland, England, and Scotland. After college, Frieda plans to continue exploring the world and other cultures through spending time in places off the beaten path.
