"A Grand Souk Festival" will feature activities for adults and children on Sunday, May 19th at El Rancho Cordillera del Norte in Northridge from 11:30 am until 5:00 pm. This open air bazaar of arts and culture is a culminating celebration of the Big Read Program through the National Endowment for the Arts and the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. This Valley celebration is sponsored by The Museum of the San Fernando Valley, a participant in this year's Big Read Program, along with the Levantine Cultural Center.

Actor Haaz Sleiman will emcee the Arab Film Festival's opening night gala in Los Angeles

The Arab Film Festival (AFF) presents its 16th annual festival in the San Francisco Bay Area and the 6th annual version in Los Angeles, Oct 19-21, once again at the Writers Guild of America Theatre, 135 S. Doheny Drive, Beverly Hills 90211. On Oct. 19th at 8 pm, the opening night centerpiece film is Man Without a Cell Phone. The 8 pm screening is preceded by a VIP reception at 6:30 pm at the Writers Guild Theater of America. Haaz Sleiman, the Lebanese American star of The Visitor and the British mini-series The Promise, will host the opening of the festival.

"Masquerades" was Algeria's 2009 official entry for the 2009 Academy Awards, and winner of many prestigious awards including Best Feature at the Dubai International Film Festival, and Best Arabic Film at the Cairo International Film Festival.

From 12 noon to 1 pm, the LCC presents "Tales and Adventures of the Middle East" with novelist Sasha Mostofi reading from her political thriller Cemetery of Dreams, and novelist Kamran Pasha reads from his historical novel—an unexpected romance between a Muslim and a Jew during the Crusades—Shadow of the Swords. From 2:00-2:30 pm, poet Sholeh Wolpé will sign her three books, The Scar Saloon, Rooftops of Tehran, and Sin: Selected Poems of Forough Farrokhzad.
