posted May 2, 2013 - 10:12pm by Editor"A Grand Souk Festival" will feature activities for adults and children on Sunday, May 19th at El Rancho Cordillera del Norte in Northridge from 11:30 am until 5:00 pm. This open air bazaar of arts and culture is a culminating celebration of the Big Read Program through the National Endowment for the Arts and the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. This Valley celebration is sponsored by The Museum of the San Fernando Valley, a participant in this year's Big Read Program, along with the Levantine Cultural Center.
Arab Film Festival Opens with "Man Without A Cell Phone"
posted October 9, 2012 - 1:47pm by EditorThe Arab Film Festival (AFF) presents its 16th annual festival in the San Francisco Bay Area and the 6th annual version in Los Angeles, Oct 19-21, once again at the Writers Guild of America Theatre, 135 S. Doheny Drive, Beverly Hills 90211. On Oct. 19th at 8 pm, the opening night centerpiece film is Man Without a Cell Phone. The 8 pm screening is preceded by a VIP reception at 6:30 pm at the Writers Guild Theater of America. Haaz Sleiman, the Lebanese American star of The Visitor and the British mini-series The Promise, will host the opening of the festival.

Visit the Levantine Cultural Center at the 10th annual West Hollywood Book Fair, which features 25,000 GUESTS * 300 AUTHORS & ARTISTS * 13 STAGES 125 EXHIBITORS * PANELS & PERFORMANCES FOR ALL AGES. This year, many of the Book Fair panels and events will take place in the brand new West Hollywood Library, solidifying its place as a community gathering space. Libraries are centers of the community and the West Hollywood Library is the center of the Book Fair.

Armo-Greco Music & Comedy FestivalThe first Armo-Greco Music and Comedy Festival promises to be a high energy, memorable evening of song, dance and humor.
Heavyweight of hilarity Angelo Tsarouchas hosts the festival. Local favorite Element Band headlines a star-studded musical line-up that includes world-renowned guitarist Pavlo and Italian singing sensation Giovanna Gattuso.
Completing the line-up are comedy favorites Lory Tatoulian and Ara Basil.

Women's Voices from the Muslim World: A Short-Film Festival presents a collection of voices from women of all faiths living in Muslim-majority countries and Muslim women living as minorities around the world that fills the void in information created by traditional news, media and art sources.
The selection includes many never-before-seen films from women filmmakers in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran.

A scene from "Masquerades"The 14th annual Arab Film Festival, celebrating its fourth year in Los Angeles, will open with a feature film by Lyes Salem (Algeria 2008, 90 min). "Masquerades" was Algeria's 2009 official entry for the 2009 Academy Awards, and winner of many prestigious awards including Best Feature at the Dubai International Film Festival, and Best Arabic Film at the Cairo International Film Festival.

9th Annual West Hollywood Book Fair

Levantine Cultural Center: West Hollywood Book FairThe Levantine Cultural Center will participate in the 9th Annual West Hollywood Book Fair on Sunday, September 26, with three authors and two booths. From 12 noon to 1 pm, the LCC presents "Tales and Adventures of the Middle East" with novelist Sasha Mostofi reading from her political thriller Cemetery of Dreams, and novelist Kamran Pasha reads from his historical novel—an unexpected romance between a Muslim and a Jew during the Crusades—Shadow of the Swords. From 2:00-2:30 pm, poet Sholeh Wolpé will sign her three books, The Scar Saloon, Rooftops of Tehran, and Sin: Selected Poems of Forough Farrokhzad.
