Volunteer With Levantine Cultural Center

Several openings offer you an opportunity to make a difference, while adding to your creative experience. You will build your leadership skills, enjoy great networking with like-minded people, and you may be tapped to join our Board of Directors. To apply for any of the following positions, email your cover letter and resume.

Media Assistant (web, audio-visual) Assist with new media improvements to web site and programs. Experience with photography, videotaping, editing, sound recording desirable.
Program Assistant Internship — Work directly with the artistic director on programs, membership and other tasks, as needed. MAC and/or PC skills with Microsoft Office desirable. Familiarity with Arabic, Farsi or other Middle Eastern language is helpful. Flexible hours, 15-20 per week with fringe benefits.
PR/Marketing Assistant Internship — This part-time pr/marketing internship focuses on assisting with media and community outreach. Intern will improve our media list, coordinate radio, TV and print communications, and do outreach to select foundations and like-minded organizations, promoting the programs and general profile of the center. Strong communication skills and some guerrilla marketing or community organizing experience are desirable. Flexible hours, 15-20 per week with fringe benefits.
Calendar Editor — Levantine Cultural Center has one of the finest calendars anywhere, listing cultural arts events in Southern California—all within a Middle East/Mediterannean/West Asian context. Yet we seek to constantly improve this public service. Become our new Calendar Editor, and work mostly from your own computer, with occasional hours in the office. Interact with people in management positions, as you request complementary tickets, services or other in-kind exchanges that help grow the Center and benefit our members. This position offers the possibility of implementing some of your own ideas. Time commitment flexible but requires a minimum of 10 hours per month. You will receive occasional free tickets and other fringe benefits.
Newsletter Assistant Editor — Work as an editor for our online newsletter, which regularly explores the literature, music, poetry, philosophy and other humanities of the Middle East. Implement your copy editing skills, while further enriching your own knowledge of the Middle East.

Help us make the newsletter a monthly rather than a quarterly feature by soliciting contributions from a range of writers, from those well-established to younger, emerging contributors. View our current newsletter. Flexible hours, 20 per month with fringe benefits.
Film Committee Chair — Are you a film buff? Have you worked in the film industry? We are working with the Los Angeles Film Festival, May-June 2007, as well as the Arab Film Festival, Nov. 2007, and are seeking a volunteer to oversee our visual arts track. You will work with our film commission, helping make film and video selections, coordinate publicity, sell tickets, and represent the Center at screenings.
Fundraiser/Grantwriter — Do you have fundraising skills from having worked with other nonprofit or cultural arts organizations? Are you concerned about the need to support intercultural dialogue and exchange? We are in great need of a talented fundraising person who will be hired on a contract basis. Our primary focus is in capacity building, with only about 30% of grant applications submitted for programs.
Graphic Designer — Levantine Cultural Center seeks volunteer graphic designers to help create print materials and graphics for our web site, including postcards, posters and more. If you are a young professional or student designer with a desire to grow your portfolio, this is an excellent opportunity.
Web Designer — We are constantly enhancing our web site. Already we receive as many as 250,000 visitors per month. Join our roster of committed volunteers by donating a few hours a month of your time. Work with us as we create improved functioning of our web site. Assist us in adding a shopping cart and other new features. If you are a young professional or student designer with a desire to grow your portfolio, this is an excellent opportunity.
Project Manager — Levantine Cultural Center has a committed Board of Directors, each of whom in turn oversees volunteer members who co-chair a number of committees. We seek a highly organized individual, whose sole responsibility will be to manage others as they address the tasks designated by the board. You will maintain a roster of people and assignments and simply check in with everyone on the list, giving moral support while urging completion of tasks in a timely fashion. This is an excellent opportunity to build leadership skills. Upon successful completion of a trial period, the new Project Manager will be invited to join our Board of Directors.
Additional volunteers are sought on a continuing basis, to assist us in the production of arts programs. Help run our membership table, get out mailings, keep our maiing list updated and an array of other tasks. Please contact Levantine Cultural Center at 310.657.5511 or 657.5522.
